A burnt-out writer learns about the healing power of the love of cats.

Contrary to popular beliefs, Anime offers us more than just lengthy action scenes and unnecessarily wordy monologues. Among thousands of animes produced till date, there remains multiple masterpieces that transcends beyond the notion of for entertainment only'. "My Roommate is a Cat" is one such show.  I had recently discovered a fondness for live-action cat fiction Housemate (which I insist is a much better title than the one Crunchyroll is using) has made me reassess that; I am now pretty convinced that animated cat fiction can and will be better.

One of the most compelling aspects of "My Roommate is a Cat" is its dual-perspective storytelling. The first half of each episode is told from Subaru's point of view, as he navigates his daily life as a writer and deals with his own personal struggles. The second half of each episode is told from Haru's point of view, as we see the world through the eyes of the curious and mischievous cat. This unique storytelling style allows viewers to get a deeper understanding of both Subaru and Haru's characters and the bond they share.

The story starts after the death of Subaru's parents. As an introvert, Subaru struggles to come to terms with his loss and has difficulty connecting with others. He found a stray cat in his mother and father's grave, and then the story begins as Subaru and Haru deal with the struggles of learning to live with each other. Even though it may be hard to believe, Subaru is a writer. In his day-to-day life, he has taken all the little connections he has made for granted, and across the series, this new cat in his life forces him to reevaluate all those connections. For instance, he didn't like to go out, but for the cat, he needed to get out to get food for Haru. As he was new to taking care of a cat, he needed suggestions from others and gradually made friends. However, his relationship with Haru slowly begins to help him open up and learn to trust others again. At the beginning, his understanding of himself was minuscule, but towards the end, he begins to understand who he is. Yes, he may have social anxiety as well as passive-aggressive tantrums, but in the end, he accepts the world.

The review will be incomplete if I don't talk about the other protagonist, Haru (cat). Half to a third of each episode, the writer talks about what's going on in Haru's head, creating context in a new way. The struggle they face while communicating is very funny. What Haru sees and what Subaru sees are completely different, but the ways they interpret each other can give a good kick in the story. Owing to Haru's difficult backstory, there is a lot of emotion going on there. The writer makes the audience consider what's really going on inside its characters' minds – this is an extremely elegant way to build empathy, and without a doubt, the series' greatest strength.

Throughout the series, "My Roommate is a Cat" celebrates the joys and challenges of human-animal relationships. As Subaru and Haru get to know each other better, they learn to communicate and understand each other's needs. As I watch the anime i can see a reflection of one of my friends. After his father dead he was really down. He was a introvert like the main character but one our friend changed his life. He made his come out the black room like Haru did.

The animation and soundtrack of "My Roommate is a Cat" are also noteworthy. The series features beautiful animation that perfectly captures the charming and whimsical tone of the show. The soundtrack, composed by Kotoringo, is a standout feature of the series, with lovely and evocative tracks that enhance the emotional impact of the story.

Overall, "My Roommate is a Cat" is a poignant and heartwarming series that explores important themes of grief, healing, and the power of human-animal relationships. Its unique storytelling style, well-developed characters, and beautiful animation and soundtrack make it a must-watch for anyone interested in anime and manga
